Wisconsin, Washburn County Plumbing Permit Regulations and County Ordinances for Unincorporated Areas
Washburn County Plumbing Permit Requirements
Washburn County's Zoning Department oversees regulations for private onsite wastewater treatment systems (POWTS), which includes plumbing. For properties in unincorporated areas, a Sanitary Permit is required before any installation or repair of a POWTS, including privies. This permit ensures that the existing system meets regulations or that necessary permits for a new system have been obtained.
Wisconsin law mandates that the installation or repair of POWTS, with the exception of privies, must be performed by a Wisconsin Licensed Master Plumber. A soil evaluation is a prerequisite for obtaining a Sanitary Permit for a private sewage system, and the Washburn County Zoning Office recommends this be done before purchasing property.
Washburn County also issues Land Use permits, which involve reviewing zoning compliance, lot line setbacks, and ensuring the sanitary system is adequately sized for the project.
While the City of Washburn has its own permit requirements, such as construction and demolition permits, plumbing-specific details for the city are generally handled by contacting City Hall for water and sewer connections.
In Wisconsin, a plumbing license is generally required for plumbing installations. However, an exception exists for property owners installing plumbing within their own primary, one-family dwelling. This exemption does not apply to new construction or rental properties.
