Marion County HVAC Permit Requirements
Marion County, Arkansas, requires permits for HVAC work, particularly in unincorporated areas. The county is responsible for issuing permits for properties outside of city limits. If your property is within an incorporated city in Marion County, that city's building department will handle your permits.
For properties in unincorporated areas of Marion County, a Development Permit is required before construction or installation begins, and an Occupancy Permit is needed before a new dwelling can be occupied. The minimum fee for a Development Permit is $100, and the minimum fee for an Occupancy Permit is also $100.
To obtain a Development Permit, you will need to provide a 911 address application (if applicable), parcel number, electrical account number, and a receipt of payment for the permit fee. Inspections are conducted by the Marion County Building Inspector by appointment.
An Occupancy Permit will be issued after the plumbing and electrical work have been inspected and certified by the County Building Inspector to meet state codes. Permanent power can be connected after the Occupancy Permit fee is paid and the electrical inspection is signed off by the inspector.
In Arkansas, HVAC contractors must be licensed. Entry-level technicians need to register with the state and work under a licensed contractor. To obtain an HVACR contractor license, you generally need to be at least 18 years old, have two years of experience, pass a board-approved examination, and pay associated fees.
For commercial HVAC projects, specific plans, including HVAC plans, may be required as part of the permit application process.
